Description:
Léonie is indistinguishable from crowds, since she keeps to herself she lowers her head as not to be seen. She's a girl of medium build, not incredibly petite but not exactly chubby either, with pale smooth skin. She doesn't have much muscle definition and any that she does is a result from lifting heavy instruments or swimming. Her face is heart shaped and her hair is dark, framing her face in tumbling curls. She has big gray blue eyes framed by dark lashes with a small pouting mouth, her lips naturally a ruddy pink in color. Noticeable her hands are pale and she has a collection of small scars between her fingers due to slight webbing that was between her fingers that she attempts to hide (the webbing was surgically removed; thus the scars) and she has the same webbing between her toes. When she isn't in her uniform she's typically seen in dresses that aren't too vibrant in color and ballet flats. She dislikes the feeling of cloth on her legs so she tries to avoid wearing pants as much as possible, and would rather face the winter cold than wearing pants. She holds a slightly washed out look about her, as though swimming in the ocean for too long and having all of the color drained from her.

Overall Personality:
Léonie is outwardly a quiet and sweet girl. She doesn't enjoy speaking much, due to a terrible stutter that leaves her frustrated and upset. Easily frightened she isn't too fond of social interaction, and would much rather sit by herself and study than talk with others. It isn't easy for her to make friends, struggling to keep involved in any single conversation no matter how short or general the subject is. She's skittish, and being the center of attention causes her great embarrassment, sometimes to the point of angry tears.
She suffers from an illness called Selective Mutism, a rare type of anxiety disorder whose main distinguishing characteristic is the persistent failure to speak in specific social situations (e.g., at school, or with playmates) where speaking is expected, despite speaking in other situations. This limits her abilities to connect with others, and also limits her abilities to calmly survive day by day. She is excessively shy, and turns bright red when addressed during a class or in public.
To calm herself she moves her hands a lot, and daydreams which results in an amusing display of hand movements as though she's directing a music piece being played.
Her downfall is her inability to multi-task, which makes it harder for her to do a set list of things since they individually require her full attention. Catching her interest is hard to do, but her love for the ocean and for rain outweighs her anxiety, which is why it is best to speak of either topic if she is put into any state of panic. Beneath her flaws she is a sweet and caring girl, who doesn't like to outcast one single person due to prejudgement. She believes in giving everyone an equal chance to prove themselves, and it is in the chance that the line between friend and foe is determined. She is very opinionated which becomes more and more apparent the more you get to know her, and she will subtlety imply in most cases that she is right and that she wants things done her way.
Though very uncommon she does throw occasional temper tantrums, which range from a level 1, a level 3, and a level 7. A level one is her stomping around and giving people the silent treatment, level 3 is pouting and shouting and level 7 is screaming or crying and holding her breath until she gets her way.
She has a soft spot for children, and does tutor several young children both muggle and magical during the summer in the art of piano playing as well as one or two violin students. Another odd quirk is her fascination with philosophy, especially Aristotle as she will often quote him when feeling nervous. She has a very inquisitive nature and is also very curious, to a dangerous point where it nearly gets her into trouble.

Overall History:
Léonie Hélèn Vernier was birthed in a small house by the sea during a storm, to an English mother from London and a French Father from Callais. The pregnancy had been unexpected, but the newly wedded couple hadn't minded the new addition once her face entered the world. Despite only being half French her name bore the namesake of one nation rather than two, as her mother had more of an affinity for the lilting tones of the language she'd fallen for. Her life had started out like any other, having two parents who were rather doting and had wild eccentric plans for her future, and who also had decided to have another baby in the short time span of her birth. Except one of her parents had a secret, he was a wizard. A wizard who had lost everything to Death Eaters only a few months ago, everything except his father who was ill. Rather than holding a dangerous job that would keep him from his beloved wife and children, Anatole held a job as a magical creature researcher, logging and examining various magical creatures he came across.
His love for the subject was alight in his daughter, who he brought with him on his excursions close to home and by the sea. Though she also had a love for the creatures, she seemed to be more in love with something else the two had introduced to her. Music. It seemed that her fascination with music was endless, and her talent was enormous even at a young age. As soon as they could they began piano lessons, and discovered a vast musical genius hidden within the girl. Boniface, Anatole's father, saw the potential in his young grand-daughter, and taught her the art of the violin and the cello. With this instrument she was magnificent and she learned very fast. A small problem she faced was webbing between her fingers and toes that she was born with, and with a small surgery the webbing between her fingers was removed and she was able to play the instruments better and more easily than before. She had become a concert child, but only for a shortly lived time. Boniface was the first to notice it, the child suffered from an extreme form of anxiety that was triggered by large crowds and being in public. He raised questions about the behavior, alerted both parents who became nervous their child was ill.
Brought to a specialist it was revealed that Léonie had an illness called selective mutism, a rare type of anxiety disorder whose main distinguishing characteristic is the persistent failure to speak in specific social situations (e.g., at school, or with playmates) where speaking is expected, despite speaking in other situations. Selective mutism interferes with educational or occupational achievement or with social communication, and children with this disorder may communicate by gestures, monosyllabic, short, or monotone utterances, or in an altered voice. It was explained that associated symptoms with the disorder was excessive shyness, fear of social embarrassment, social isolation and withdrawal, clinging, compulsive traits, negativism, temper tantrums, or controlling or oppositional behavior, particularly at home, but also that there was no known cause for the illness or a set treatment. It was something that they would have to deal with step by step and day by day. Shortly after the news Mary-Anne announced she was pregnant yet again.
Though the illness didn't deter her at home she stayed an introverted child who clung mostly to her Grandfather, who continued to teach her the secrets of the violin and helped her develop into a better musician. From a young age her dream had reached heights she never thought possible, she wanted to be a concert musician. The next few years drifted by aimlessly, until one day a strange letter arrived. Right before her eleventh birthday, her Hogwarts letter arrived to tell her she was accepted into the school, and she was swept off into the mysterious world of magic. Concerns were raised about her abilities to cope in a school so large and away from home, but her parents were calmed with words from the headmaster about accommodations made to help soothe the girl. Her first year was exciting, in both good and bad ways. She immersed herself in her studies with enthusiasm, but her illness kept her at bay from connecting to other students.
Keeping to herself was the key to her success and despite all efforts to satiate herself she found herself feeling empty due to one missing part of her life; her music. That was the year she discovered the Room of Requirements, lamenting wanderings led her across the hallway and she discovered the room, filled with tall ceilings and acoustics that made her music soar. Years passed unnoticed, her brother joined her in the school as news of her third brother's development at home came in love filled letters. A blue letter soon arrived during her fourth year, declaring the arrival of a younger sibling which would be their last child. The celebration was short lived however, as her father was killed in a horrendous accident while working. The family became quieter, more faded and gloomy. They struggled to regain their happiness, Boniface passed from grief shortly after his sons death, and soon it seemed the only noise that drifted through the house was disembodied cries and the lamenting tones of a lonely violin.

The waves broke the surface with white foam, it was a gray and washed out morning, the very kind that seemed to settle Léonie's chaotic thoughts. She stood with her toes buried in the warm sand, eyes closed and lips parted to taste the sweet salty ocean air on the tip of her tongue. A noise in the distance caused her blue gray orbs to open, and she saw the dark storm clouds in the distance. Thunder rolled in the horizon, and she shivered as the clouds loomed closer and rain dripped; foreboding and ominous.
"Léonie!"
She turned her head back to the house that sat atop a small cliff, directly in front of the ocean. The white exterior was weather beaten, and used to be blue, but the storms had washed away the beautiful color and replaced it with the nearly gloomy yet somehow serene look. Her mother stood, English by all means as her tongue stumbled slightly over the accented letters in her name. She was a worn woman with lively eyes, beautiful still in her relatively young age. Turning her whole body to the authoritative woman, she was beckoned inside to be protected from the cold rain that fell first in small drops, then soon in vast sheets.
Climbing the steps quickly Léonie tripped on the wet stones, and cursed silently. Catching herself she rushed the rest of the way up the cliff and into the house, where her mother quickly fussed over her with a towel to dry her hair. Sour notes misplayed caused the wet girl to cringe, and a slight wetness was brought to her eyes as she followed the noise. Her brother sat, with his head of messy dark hair, at the piano and was striking notes at random, combining a few at a time for a worse effect. It was clear he was enjoying himself, even without playing an actual tune.
"Gaspard please."
She chided gently to the sheepish young man as he ceased his strokes. Sliding next to him on the bench her fingers glided over the keys, and soft music filled the air. Her brother sat as she played and smiled at her quietly, which she responded to crookedly. Thunder cracked loudly in the air and the two jumped, and cries erupted into the air as the youngest child ran in. Angelette ran through the room to her mother, who swept her up and cooed to her in a sweet voice. Glancing out the window Léonie noticed how dark the sky was, and how much the wind was picking up. Standing she entered the kitchen and looked out the french doors that led outside. The waters had turned dark gray and the waves vicious. Silently she hoped the resulting damage from the storm wouldn't be too much for them to handle again.
