Overall Personality:
James Potter, known to his friends as “Prongs”, is many things. To some, the wizard is arrogant. He is. This is what you become when you have money. You believe that you can do anything because the cost is nothing compared to what’s in your bank account. To aid Prongs’ in his arrogance, he is also boastful. Well, when you have as many things to boast about James does then you’re bound to brag. His need to brag is not the only thing that his arrogance fuels: he is also a troublemaker. This can manifest itself in the form of bullying, taking it out on particular classmates, such as Severus “Snivellus” Snape. With regards to his relationship with Snivellus, James does have a jealousy about him that can also be seen on the Quidditch field.
Then there is the other side of James – the part of him that has potential. He is a very gifted wizard, excelling in subjects such as Transfiguration. The fact that he is gifted in Transfiguration can be seen in the fact he has become an animagus at such a young age. He is quite loyal, having made the decision to be with his friend in that friend’s darkest moments and going against the law to do so. In contrast to the fact that James has broken the law by becoming an unregistered animagus, he is responsible. James takes charge when he needs to and is brave in his actions.
Deep down, he is insecure. He has that voice asking, questioning whether or not he has done something right or whether he should act a certain way. His insecurities become most prominent (to him) whenever he is around Lily Evans and are least prominent when he is alone with his fellow Marauders (although there are moments when James does feel insecure around his closest friends).

Overall History:
James Earl Potter was born to wealthy Pureblood wizards in March of 1960. He would be their ownly child and they were elderly (even for wizards) so spoilt James growing up. This caused James to become boastful and full of pride but his parents made sure that money did not corrupt their son entirely. They taught him that blood purity, even with perks such as the money, was not everything. James was not blinded by his status as a pureblood. This expanded in James’ mind to include conflicts such as the wizard-werewolf conflict. These would make James a better person in the long run.
Having been born into a wizarding family, James grew up knowing that he was a wizard and consequently would need training in the arts of magic and wizardry. So it was no surprise that he recieved a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, stating that he had been offered a place and term started in September. It would be here that he would make his second home. Upon reaching the institution, James was instantly put into Gryffindor just like his father before him. It was through this choice of the Sorting Hat that the young wizard met his friends: Padfoot, Moony and Wormtail (as they would later become known as). These four boys formed the closest of relationships with James assuming the role of leader, due to the arrogant element of his nature.
As the self-named “Marauders” made their way up through Hogwarts’ life, their friendship grew as they did. Upon discovering that his friend Remus Lupin was a werewolf, James and the remaining Marauders took it upon themselves to become (illegal) animagi. James dawned the form of a stag in reflection of his noble status as a pureblood and the power he held due to this and his leadership within the group. The determination that James showed in becoming an animagus showed that he was willing to go further then anyone else for his friends. That and James had an exceptional talent for Transfiguration.
During his time at Hogwarts, James came into contact with two other students that would affect his life forever. The first being Severus “Snivellus” Snape. James grew to bully Snivellus in his arrogance with aid from his friends. The pair had instantly disliked each other ever since dear old Snivellus showed interest in being sorted into Slytherin whilst on their first trip to Hogwarts. This mutual dislike, fuelled by James’ suspicions over Snivellus’ feelings towards Lily Evans, led to the bullying that James put the wizard through over the next seven years. Little did James know, Snivellus would essientally be the one to kill him but that has yet to be written on the pages of history.
The other person that impacted James greatly was the muggleborn Lily Evans. The pair had a “rocky” relationship to begin with but the young wizard eventually developed feelings for the girl. During their fifth year at Hogwarts, James went out of his way to impress Lily but kept failing to meet her standards. Now a year later and James is still trying to get the girl but it did not matter for he was attending the best school for magic with his best friend/adopted brother/all-year roomie, Sirius Black and the other Marauders, playing on the house quidditch team with the support of the student body.
Show Off
The sun was setting over Hogwarts this fine summer’s day and everything was peaceful. A light breeze playful made its way through the trees in the Forbidden Forest, as if it didn’t have a care in the world. In the sky above, not a cloud could be seen as the first of the stars began sparkling so high. Anyone who knew their astrology knew that a full moon would soon be accompanying those scattered beacons of lights. Back in the grounds of Hogwarts, no one could argue that the climate over the school wasn’t perfect. A bird that lived in the forest hovered on the gleeful breeze before talking a dive downwards. It was almost at ground level before adverting its course of aim and headed towards the castle. Flapping its wings, the bird used the air to fuel its travel. It soured up and round one of the many towers of Hogwarts, past a window. A window that acted as barrier between the bird and a seventeen year old boy with jet black hair and blue eyes.
James Potter was alone in the dormitory that he had called home for what felt like decades. Looking around him, the wizard absorbed everything that his sight gave him. The four poster bed closest to him was messy from the night before. At the foot of this bed stood a case with clothes hanging out of it. On it was the Hogwarts Crest. The dormitory had three other beds with accompanying cases, each as untidy as the last. Tonight all four of these beds would be empty. It was not a holiday. Tonight, a full moon would make its debut appearance before hiding away for another month. This meant that one of James’ closest friends, Moony would loose his humanity tonight. It was a burden for him made easier by his fellow Marauders. The quartet would spend their night in the infamous Shrieking Shack whilst Moony would torture himself in his wolf form. He couldn’t help it. He got bitten as a child by another werewolf and every month since he would change into this beast. That’s why James took on the mantle of becoming an illegal animagus. That’s why Padfoot took it and that’s why Wormtail (with help) took it. So now once every thirty days, the friends would travel to the Shrieking Shack in animal form and would spend the night together before returning to school the next morning, sleepy as anything with not a care in the world. That night was tonight.
James glanced out the window again at the gliding bird. He knew what it was like to be free. Not in the same way as the bird but he definitely was familiar with freedom. He felt it when he thought about his wealth, when playing quidditch, and when he was with his fellow Marauders. For now though, he had to wait. Thankfully, James was not as reckless as Padfoot was. James did not have long. Tonight he was Prongs.
