Description: Ben is an average looking guy. There is very little about him that stands out other than his shoulder length curly hair. But aside from that he pretty much blends in with the crowd, and that’s just how he likes it. Ben is only 5’10”, but is very broad across his chest. He’s not quite sure where he gets his muscle definition. The only form of exercise he gets is when he’s out playing Quidditch for the fun of it. His dark brown eyes have a brooding look, though being menacing is not in his nature. When it comes to his wardrobe Ben is more than happy to wear wizard robes. To him it feels much more natural than jeans and a t-shirt. When he returns home for the holidays he hates reverting back to his muggle clothes. That being said he doesn’t like his school uniform at all. To him it’s awful and the jumpers are itchy. It is one of the few reasons that he can’t wait to complete his seventh year.
Tell Me More
Likes: Reading, sleeping, eating, chocolate, cooking, rain, cold weather, storms, friends, traveling, kissing, cuddling by a fire, cuddling in general, making friends, sweets, leaning new spells, dancing ridiculously, music, animals, hot chocolate, a cuppa, Italian food, Asian food, the smell of burning wood, and flirtatiousness.
Dislikes: Being a leader, being sick, being away from home, shopping, cold feet (literally not figuratively), when things are too clean or too dirty, constant schoolwork, intolerance, spending too much time studying, answering the phone, public speaking, cold tea, sunburns, materialistic people, school uniforms, and people with egos,
Habits/Quirks: He’s always trying to do things himself and doesn’t like to ask for help. Ben is easily bored, and is also very empathetic.
Strengths: Curious, open-minded, persistent, loving, kind, and loyal.
Weaknesses: Can be a bit possessive, shy, easily offended, low self-esteem, quick to jump to conclusions, dubious, and he can be a bit crass at times.
Overall Personality:Ben has always valued his family and friends over everything else. He is insanely loyal and can be a bit too forgiving at times. After the loss of his mother he tries very hard to keep those still in his life priority. He realized how quickly people can come in and out of your life and he decided he’d cling to those around him as best as he could. Sometimes he comes off as being overly possessive, but he’s very afraid of losing someone he loves. Ben is very close to his father as he is the only relative that he has left. Ben makes a large effort to owl his father often, which can be difficult with his work load.
Another problem Ben has is that he can be very shy. He has a hard time prompting conversations with people he doesn’t know. He is often classified as an introvert by those around him, and he can’t help but agree with this. He doesn’t talk for the sake of talking, and has a low self-esteem for reasons which he can’t justify. If he’s very close to someone he can be extremely brassy, but he tries his best to keep it contained.
Bring It Home
Father: Lawrence Norman Collingwood
Mother: Maureen Miriam Collingwood
Siblings: None
Other Important People: None
Overall History: On March 23, 1959, Benedict William Collingway was born to Lawrence and Maureen Collingway. Neither Lawrence or Maureen had expected to have a child so young. Both of them were fully concentrated on their careers and didn’t believe themselves to be ready for the care and attention that a baby demanded. Like most people however they did everything they could to make it work.
Lawrence and Maureen were both trying to climb the ranks at Scotland Yard, but with baby Benedict on the way Maureen decided to take some time off from her dream job to be home with their future son. Lawrence was now the main source of income in the family and living in London on one wage wasn’t exactly easy; especially for a growing family. They made it work like the many other struggling families. Ben was born and all was right in the world for the time being.
He grew into a healthy toddler who was constantly curious about the world around him. He was always alert and energetic and from a young age he seemed to make friends fairly easily. That being said he was also timid around people he didn’t know. It would take him quite a while before he would warm up to someone new.
And for awhile it stayed that way. He headed off to primary school and his mother went to seek employment as a Yarder. Ben thrived in school and was a natural young scholar. His father made his way up the ranks at the Yard and his mother was now a police officer. One day however she was shot multiple times and was rushed to the hospital. For a young Ben this was very traumatic experience. He was only eight at the time and to see his mother bandaged in a bed with IVs was hellish. To see his father openly weep was a terrifying experience. Normally he was a hard man who kept many of his emotions to himself. For three days she was in the ICU before she finally passed away during the night.
The death of his mother was very hard for the small family. It took many weeks before any normality was found between father and son. Lawrence threw himself into his work and took up ever available shift that they would give them. If Ben wasn’t at school then he was at a sitters. And after a while this became normal though there still felt like there was a huge whole in their life without Maureen.
Ben ended up becoming very stoic and after his mother’s death never showed any signs of accidental magic. He never assumed that all those weird events that happened were because of magic. He always assumed it was just an odd occurrence and both of his parents seemed to assume the same. They never had any reason to expect anything else.
On his 11th birthday a Minister official who worked with the ‘Muggle Liaisons office’ (whatever the hell that was) came to their home. The man explained that the odd accidents that happened around Ben were from accidental magic. He told them of Hogwarts, ‘one of the finest magical schools in the world’ and how Benedict had his name on the list to attend if they wanted it.
At first Ben didn’t know what to think. Every young child dreams of having some cool powers, to be able to perform magic and Ben was getting that chance. But even at 11 he wasn’t sure if he wanted to leave his father who was still having a hard time since the passing of his wife. The Ministry official gave them time to think, and a way for them to contact them once they’ve made a decision. After a couple weeks of discussing it they decided that it would be good for Ben to go to school where there would be others like him.
He was very excited to go to Hogwarts, but the trip to Diagon Alley was the most brilliant thing he had ever done up to that point. The ministry official was with them, and brought them through the Leaky Cauldron, and through the brick entry way that parted with several taps of the wand.
Upon entering Diagon Alley they saw a very crowded streets with witches and wizards of all ages dressed in flowing robes and pointed hats. He saw others like him and his father who were dressed casually in jeans and a t-shirt. In front of one storefront there were cauldrons and in front of another there were cages of owls.
Their first trip was to the bank where they had to exchange money, then to the wand shop where one of the thousands of wands chose him. Holding his wand in his hand for the first time was the most exhilarating experiences. There was a tingly sensation in his hand and a warmth spread over his body. This was definitely his wand. He was fitted for his school robes, gathered his books, cauldrons, potion ingredients, and his very own owl. Overall it would always be considered one of the best days of his life.
The ride to Hogwarts was equally excited. Even though the trip took several hours and it was pouring when they crossed the lake and they were drenched as they waited to be sorted. He was placed in a great house, and he immediately made some friends and from what he could tell his Head of House was exceedingly nice.
From that moment on he was quite settled within the walls of Hogwarts, but he would soon realize that being magical had it’s faults to. The papers showed of deaths and disappearances and even he was targeted at school for being a mud-blood. But within the walls he found several close friends and kept a low head at school.

It was a welcome relief to see the gates of Hogwarts again. The weeks of summer holiday had done it’s toll on him. He had very little friends in the muggle world and could only communicate by his friends by owl post. It was nice to be on the train with them and catch up on all the things that had happened during the summer. His friends told him of bizarre trips that their family took around the world, and he sat and listen patiently as they told him of the cool things they saw and did.
The carriage ride up was beautiful. The night had overcome the castle and the windows glowed orange from the candle light. Stepping inside from the cold night air was a welcomed relief. The entry way had a roaring fire, and the hoard of students moved through the entry and into the Great Hall talking nosily amongst each other. Now it was time for them to await the arrival of the first years as they came across the lake and would get to see the castle for the first time.
They all looked unbelievably small in their little uniforms and black hats. Some seemed unsure while others looked around in amusement at the floating candles above them. The Sorting Hat sang it’s song and the students were sorted. And then it was time to feast, one of his favorite things about being back at Hogwarts was the delicious food.
