Prongs walked along the Fat Lady's Corridor with his head held high. Okay, yes he was up a lot later then he was supposed to be, breaking god knows how many rules in the process but he didn't care. He was on his way back to the Gryffindor Common Room now. Heck he could see the entrance portrait from here. The whole nine yards. The defiant wizard took a quick bite of the apple he had stolen from the school kitchens. The House elves didn't even realise he was there. He had used the invisibility cloak you see with the aid of a certain map James had co-created. At this hour of the night, the objects were just accompanying him as precautions and really only needed for the actual theft. Now that it was done and dusted, the Map was in James' robe pocket whilst his fingers were clinging on to the cloak. No one was going to catch the boy.
As James made his final steps, his mind started to wonder but kept coming back to the one thing - Lily Evans. How could she be friends with someone like Snivellus? Snivellus? The pureblood-lover. Lily should hang around people of a better quality. Like James himself. "But she would never do that!" thought James to himself. He could not hide behind his friends here. Here he was all alone. Not including any of the snoozing portraits hanging on the walls. His friends were still in the dormitory. Here it was just James. He stopped dead in his tracks. His heart had skipped a beat at the mere thought of Lily Evans. He knew that he acted negatively around her but he didn't mean to. The idea that Lily would go with James was as unlikely as Snivellus finding a bottle of shampoo and knowing how to use it. She was just so unimpressed in her view of James. What more could she want? James was a chaser for the house quidditch team for pete's sake. Did she like those who got good grades and were prefects? That wasn't it otherwise she would have gone out with Moony ages ago.
James sighed. He wasn't as arrogant as people knew him to be. As she knew him to be.

As soon as Lily reached the common room, she hit the books. She wanted to get all her homework done tonight because she had the night shift of walking thought the halls and checking to make sure no one was out after curfew. And she wanted to catch a quick nap before she had to go out too. She hadn't slept as well as she'd hoped last night. One of her roommates had a serious snoring problem.
She'd gotten about 3/4ths of her work done when she finally began to doze off. Before she knew it she was being shaken awake and told it was her turn to walk the halls. Wiping the drool off her face, she quickly gathered her things and ran them upstairs before stepping out of the portrait. She began walking the dark halls, lighted only by torches every few steps along the hall. She lifted some tapestries to make sure no snogging couples were hiding behind. The night shift wasn't eventful and her mind began to wonder.
She had so much work to do already and it was only the first week of school. Not that Lily was stressing. She'd always find some time to finish it. What she was upset about was Potter and his gang, roaming the halls once again like they owned them. He was so arrogant that even thinking about him frustrated Lily so she distracted herself by peeking under some more tapestries. She stomped along the hallway throwing open the doors to empty classrooms before making one final round and heading back to the common room. She was a tad distracted, getting over her little temper tantrum, that she didn't notice the student ahead of her until she was almost to the portrait.
"Hey," she called ahead of her. "It's after curfew, ya know? I'm going to have to-" Lily cut off as she recognized Potter ahead of her. A wide grin spread across her face. She'd always wanted to catch him in the act and here he was. "Potter. Ya know, this'll be a detention at the least, if not more," she said, a grin still on her face.

As James stood, the portrait that housed the Fat Lady in front of him opened from behind – someone was coming out of the Gryffindor Common Room. Quickly the teen tried to get as much of the Invisibility cloak into his pocket. He didn’t want it confiscated or anything. His hazel eyes moved back towards the fellow insomniac. They zoomed in on the long, red strands of hair that the person in front of the boy possessed. He recognised it instantly.
"Hey. It's after curfew, ya know? I'm going to have to–"
Lily Evans. The very girl that had made her way into the mind of this wizard on numerous occasions. "Maybe if you think of her enough times then she’ll appear," thought the boy to himself. James promptly dismissed the idea as a smirk made its home on Evans’ face:
"Potter. Ya know, this'll be a detention at the least, if not more."
The part of James that wanted to impress Lily was urging to get out and make an attempt of living that little bit longer. The confident side of him eager to get out. It had failed to win the girl before but maybe one more time wouldn't hurt. "You know if you wanted a date Evans, then you could’ve just asked for one" remarked the teenager.

"You know if you wanted a date Evans, then you could’ve just asked for one."
Lily rolled her eyes. "You know if you wanted a detention, Potter," she said in a mocking tone, "you could have just asked for it."
When she'd first realized it was Potter she had internally groaned but she held a lot of power and wasn't against using it if he continued to push her. He didn't impress Lily. In fact, he only irritated her. Following her around asking her out day and night and the stupid way he messed up his hair every time she approached. He was arrogant and she couldn't stand him. And no matter how many times she rejected him he still kept asking her out. She couldn't deny he had perseverance though.
"And besides, what're you doing out so late? Don't you have some sort of quidditch practice to rest up for?" Lily questioned making a face. She didn't care about his quidditch playing. "And what's that in your pocket? Pulling some late night tricks, Potter?" She surely didn't trust him.
